Ubisoft Answers Questions About Star Wars Outlaws Delay

Ubisoft has reiterated Star Wars Outlaws’ August 30 release date, despite concerns reflected in previews.

Despite the initially mixed reaction to Star Wars Outlaws conveyed by IGN First’s gameplay preview of the first ten minutes of the upcoming game, Ubisoft has reiterated that the game’s August 30 release date will not be delayed. At the time of writing, IGN’s video has garnered 8.6K likes on YouTube, and while that number may seem impressive at first, the dislikes have nearly doubled that number and currently sit at around 15,000. During a conference call with Ubisoft investors today to report on Q1 sales for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, some senior Ubisoft executives commented on the concerns surrounding the game and questioned whether or not the studio would delay the release in order to address player concerns.

“The game is now gold, so the release date is well confirmed for August 30,” said Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet, who maintained his confidence in the game. “As you mentioned, we will present more content, very high quality and many hours that should really show the depths of the open world that is a key part of the promise. The hope is to take advantage of the exploration of the galaxy with multiple planets, which should bode well for the game in terms of high-quality delivery.”

“As we’ve said before for Star Wars, the level of quality of the world and the experience is really, really high,” added Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in response to Duguet’s answer. “We’re really leveraging our engine and I think people are going to love it.”

It’s worth noting that tensions are currently high regarding all things Star Wars, as there’s some animosity toward the franchise’s latest live-action entry, The Acolyte, which has been the subject of a string of negative reviews before it even premiered. So it’s entirely possible that this is the same scenario that’s been seen in IGN’s skewed YouTube video stats. Fortunately, the video isn’t the only thing potential players have to go by in terms of early reactions, as additional previews were recently released thanks to a press event where guests got the chance to play through three of Star Wars Outlaws’ missions, and most of the reactions seem to be positive, if lukewarm. ComicBook was able to attend the event, and while we think Kay Vess’ story offers a “refreshing perspective on the vast Star Wars universe,” it ultimately seems like Ubisoft is “playing it too safe.”
