The Hailles giant and Uber delivery introduces cheap and on -road journeys along the animated corridors during weekly trip hours in major American cities – a solution to a world that feels, mostly people, more expensive every day.
From Wednesday, the runners of Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco will be able to save 50% of the price of an Uberx trip by reserving with the new “Share Route” feature.
The company has announced a road action and other new features and discounts designed to help customers save money on walks and deliveries during its annual Go-Get event. The objective is to attract and maintain a faithful customers who continue to use the Uber application despite external economic pressures.
The suburban shuttles will lead between predefined stops every 20 minutes, according to Sachin Kansal, Uber product manager. He noted that there will be dozens of roads in each launch city – as between Williamsburg and Midtown in New York. The routes, which are selected according to the vast Uber data on popular travel models, could have one or two additional stops to collect other passengers. To start, the runners will never have to share the route with up to two other co-riders.
The runners can book a seven-day seat to 10 minutes before a planned pick-up, and the application will provide them with rotating instructions to bring them from their house to the corner where they will be collected.
Uber relies on the same underlying technology that she uses for Uber Share, her shared walks offering where horsemen can obtain 15% to 30% on the cost of Uberx driving by pooling with others. Kansal told Techcrunch that Uber completes millions of trips shared per year and has seen more traction in recent times when the riders are looking for more means to save. Therefore, sharing of route.
“Due to the size of our network, both on the consumer side only on the driver’s side, and our basic characteristic and market -based technology, it allows us to do something like that and put several people in the same car while creating efficiency and predictability for their journey,” Kansal told Techcrunch.
Uber plans a future where the share of road could qualify for suburban services before tax. However, as a spokesperson noted, the company should find a way to match these trips with Uber XL vehicles. Indeed, only six -seater vehicles would meet the conditions of eligibility.
A potential progression on the part of the routes would involve autonomous vehicles, especially in chaotic cities like New York, where no autonomous automotive company has deigned the test.
Uber has partnerships with 18 AV companies and during its delivery of results in the first quarter last week, the company announced that it had reached an annualized rate of 1.5 million mobility and delivery trips to the Uber network.
One of Uber’s most recent AV partners is with Volkswagen. The two plan to work together to add autonomous versions of the VW ID. BUZZ AD ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO THE UBER APPLICATION – In particular for shared rides – from LOS Angeles in 2026.
“You can see a natural extension to be able to provide route to autonomous vehicles,” said Kansal. “(Road share) has many advantages for the autonomous vehicle. It is a very well defined route, and therefore the vans and falls are predictable. ”
Each of the Get-Go of Uber events has a theme. Last year, he focused on the means to help people spend more time together. This year, with an imminent economic uncertainty due to President Trump’s prices, mass layoffs in the world of technology and AI for all our jobs, Uber focuses on cost savings for cyclists. In the process, Uber hopes to create a predictable cash flow and coloring that maintains the runners engaged with Uber.
“In recent times, what we have heard very loudly and clear is that people feel very uncertain, people feel overwhelmed and people feel prices in many different horizons, and there is this need and the desire to obtain more affordable options,” said Kansal. “So everything we announce is downright focused on how we make life more affordable for them.”
One of Uber’s new features is “RIDE PASS”, that cyclists can use to “protect their price for a one -hour window every day on their selected routes”. There are two ways to work. Either the runners can pay $ 2.99 to lock a price on a specific route, or they can pay in advance and buy a package of prepaid travel. They can buy five, 10, 15 or 20 trips for “even deeper discount”.
The price locking offer will be available for horsemen in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Phoenix, San Francisco and Washington, DC from Wednesday, with the rest of the United States and Brazil to follow. In the fall, price locking and prepaid pass will also be available for adolescent accounts.
On the Uber EATS side, Uber goes further in its partnership with OpenTable and launches a functionality called Dine Out, which allows customers of the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland and books in Australia via Opentable on the Uber application. When they reserve (on the Uber application or on the OpenTable application), they will get a discount on a Uber walk at the restaurant. In addition, the open members will soon be able to use their points on Uber and Uber Eats – a bit like Uber’s partnership with Delta Air Lines.
These types of offers could provide savings to cyclists, especially during peak demand periods where overvoltage pricing is in force. But they are probably more beneficial for people who frequently use the Uber service. Prepared plans often feel cheaper due to initial discounts, but cyclists could also overestimate how much they will use them.
Uber’s pricing strategy is not transparent either, and some reports have suggested that cyclists with prepaid credits or gift cards obtain higher tariff quotes compared to those who paid by journey. (Anecdotal, each time I pass my payment method from my personal card to my business card, the price of driving jumps a few dollars.)
An Uber spokesperson told Techcrunch that price locking functionality is based on the historic prices of this trip, and that the prepaid pass protects against price peaks and adds discounts which are also based on historic prices.
