- Uber will soon charge 1.5% fees for the prices of preferred currency in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe.
- The favorite pricing of currencies applies to debit or credit card payments, not to gift cards or Uber species.
- Users can avoid costs by deactivating the parameter in the application account and portfolio sections.
If you live in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom or Europe, Uber Rides abroad is about to become more expensive.
The points guy reported on February 14 that Uber will automatically opt for users residing in these favorite currency pricing areas on February 27. This adjustment invoices conversion costs of 1.5% to be paid in the currency of the country of origin of the user rather than in the local currency of their destination.
The favorite currency price is only available when paying with debit or credit cards – not gift cards or Uber species.
The parameter can be useful for saving money abroad if you have a credit card that invoices a supplement for foreign transactions, but if your card does not have these costs, you will pay more with this parameter.
How to avoid foreign transaction costs on Uber
To avoid the costs of 1.5%, you can deactivate the favorite currency pricing in the settings and rather choose to pay in local currency. First, open the application and press “account”. From there, press “Wallet” and scroll the past payment methods to “favorite money”.

Then press “Define the favorite currency” and select “no favorite currency” in the options. Finally, press “Confirm” at the bottom of the options.
You can also go to “no favorite currency” on any trip before reserving it at the checkout. Good driving!
