Tyreek Hill’s Lawyer Reveals Why He’s Fighting Speeding Tickets, Seat Belt Fines: What Does Body Cam Video Show?

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and his attorney, Julius B. Collins, will plead not guilty to Hill’s two traffic tickets stemming from a confrontation with police Sunday, Collins told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview Friday.

Hill was ticketed for reckless driving and driving without a seat belt after a traffic stop Sunday. In widely circulated footage, he is seen arguing with police before being pulled out of his car, handcuffed and pushed to the ground.

Before that, body camera footage showed two Miami-Dade police officers parked in the middle of a highway. The footage showed Hill’s car driving at a remarkably fast speed.

Hill was in the left lane when he passed the officers in the video. Then they started chasing him. And the video shows Hill rejoining the lane and passing several other cars.

The next time his car was seen, he was in the right lane. That’s when he stopped and one of the officers informed Hill that he was speeding.

There was no evidence in the video, such as radar, indicating Hill’s exact speed, which is why Collins believes he has a case.

“He estimated how fast he was going,” Collins said. “I’ve heard of pace. I’ve heard of laser radar. But to physically look at someone and estimate them, I’ve never heard of that.”

“At this point, we have no information that a laser radar or anything was used or that he was monitoring it or anything. So on that point, we’re obviously going to plead not guilty.”

Collins said they could later change their plea based on the evidence.

“That may change over time based on the official incident or the narrative of a police report, so that could eventually change,” Collins said.

In the body camera footage, the first thing a police officer says to Hill as he approaches his car is, “Why didn’t you put on your seat belt?”

At the exact moment the officer said this, the video did not show whether Hill was wearing his seat belt. Later frames of the video showed Hill without a seat belt and pulling his tinted windows back. Under the obstructed view of the windows, Hill could be seen putting his seat belt back on after the officer told him to “keep the window down!”

“We have nothing,” Collins said. “We have no official police report that explains why he pleaded guilty, why he pleaded guilty, whether or not he had his seat belt on. At one point, they were able to see that Mr. Hill did not have his seat belt on.

“Was that at the time of the traffic stop? You can take it off at that time, before the officer gets to the vehicle. We have no information. So naturally, he’s going to plead not guilty until we see the police report.”

When asked whether Hill told Collins he was wearing a seat belt while driving, Collins declined to answer, citing attorney-client privilege.

The footage ultimately shows the moment Hill was handcuffed and thrown to the ground.

When the officer asked Hill to exit his vehicle, the receiver said, “I’m going to get out, I’m going to get out.” When the officer opened the door and got Hill out, the receiver said, “I’m getting out.”

Then another officer grabbed Hill by the back of the head and neck and forced him to the sidewalk to handcuff him.

Hill was released after about 25 minutes when his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, arrived. Hill was then heard telling officers he would “see you all in court” before getting back into his vehicle.

Hill has since called for the firing of Danny Torres, a 27-year-old police officer who handcuffed him.

Torres has since been assigned to administrative duties. The Miami-Dade police superintendent placed Torres on paid administrative duty after she said she viewed officers’ body camera footage that day. Torres’ attorneys told Fox News Digital They are demanding that the officer be reinstated immediately.

“We request the immediate reinstatement of our client and a full, thorough and objective investigation, as also recommended by Director Daniels. Our client will not comment until this investigation is complete and the facts are fully disclosed,” the attorneys said in a statement.
