Two members of the staff of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, were killed on Wednesday evening near the capital Jewish Museum, said internal security secretary Kristi Noem.
“Two members of staff of the Israeli embassy were killed without tonight near the Jewish Museum of Washington DC,” said Noem in an article on X. “We actively investigate and work to obtain more information to share.”
Tal Naim Cohen, spokesperson for the Israel Embassy, said in a statement: “Two members of the Israeli Embassy was killed tonight at close range while they attend a Jewish Museum in the capital.”
DC police and the FBI respond to the shooting, and the Israeli embassy is working with the police.
“There is no continuous threat to public security,” said FBI Washington’s office in an article on X.
The Israeli ambassador was not involved in the incident and was not there when the shooting occurred, a spokesperson for the Embassy told CNN.
The American prosecutor General Pam Bondi said in a position on social networks that she and the American lawyer for DC Jeanine Pirro had arrived on the scene of the shooting outside the Jewish Museum capital.
Ted Deutch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee, said that his organization organized an event at the museum on Wednesday evening.
“We are devastated that an unspeakable act of violence took place outside the place,” he said in a statement. “At the moment, while we are expecting more information from the police on exactly what happened, our attention and our hearts are only with those who were injured and their families.”
The Israel Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon reacted to media reports on the shooting on Wednesday, saying in a press release on X: “The fatal shooting that took place outside the event which took place at the Jewish Museum of Washington, DC – in which Israeli employees were injured – is a depraved act of anti -Semitic terrorism.
Police advise people to avoid the northwest area of DC.
