An unidentified gunman killed two prominent judges outside Iran’s Supreme Court on Saturday in what authorities say was a terrorist attack, according to state media.
The attacker opened fire in a square near the Supreme Court headquarters in the capital, Tehran, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
The judges, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moqiseh, had long careers and presided over cases involving national security, espionage and terrorism, according to a judiciary statement carried by state media.
Both were heads of branches of the Supreme Court. A third judge was injured in the attack.
Iranian justice described the episode as a terrorist attack and the shootings as targeted assassinations, according to Mizan, another state media outlet.
The attacker committed suicide before police could arrest him, Mizan reported. The police opened an investigation.
