Two people killed in Texas after 350,000-pound load came loose from trailer and crushed vehicle

Texas authorities are investigating an incident that left two people dead and another seriously injured Saturday after oversized equipment broke loose from a trailer and landed on top of a vehicle, trapping them inside .

According to Temple Fire and Rescue, shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, first responders were dispatched to a report of a collision on State Highway 36, just west of Highway 317.

When crews arrived, they said they discovered an oversized load had come loose from its trailer, trapping a vehicle underneath.

Officials estimated that the equipment carried by the transport fleet weighed about 350,000 pounds. Authorities did not specify what it was.

Authorities said three people were trapped inside the vehicle.

Authorities said two passengers were fatally injured and the third victim was extricated and taken to the emergency room with life-threatening injuries.

It took a little more than four hours to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle, authorities said.

Temple Fire and Rescue added that ten units and 25 personnel responded to the collision to assist.

Authorities said the cause of the collision was still under investigation.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
