Two octogenarians from Ille-et-Vilaine bowling champions on video games – Rennes

Warm atmosphere this Saturday at the Stunfest in Rennes for the western semi-final of the Wii Bowling seniors trophy. This competition, reserved for over 65s, brings together players living in residences for seniors. For the Sylver Geek association, which created the event, the idea is to improve the well-being and health of people welcomed in different types of structures, by fighting against isolation and developing intergenerational links. In Rennes, six pairs from the regions of Brittany, Normandy and Pays-de-la-Loire competed as part of the regional selection, the discipline. It was to the warm ovations of the public that the players took to the stage, including the 91-year-old dean of the event.
“Up to 12 strikes in a row”
This year, it was Daniel, 83, and Yvette, 84, who defended the colors of our region. Both are residents of the Golden Tree residence in Laillé (35) near Rennes. “Before, I played a lot of scrabble, but I didn’t know video games. Since we started bowling, I think it’s very good. It changes habits. It allows to work in particular the concentration. And then we both like competition. We’ve been training for the tournament since the start of the year,” explains Yvette. Daniel, on the other hand, is beginning to have a little more confidence: “I devoted myself to representing our establishment. I discovered video games a few months ago. It’s not bad, it brings a new way to play with others. And then we are more interested in it when we start to have good results. I managed to make up to 12 strikes in a row, 300 points, the best score. But there are days when it goes well, others when it goes less well and we don’t know why. And this Saturday it was happening! Carried by the encouragement of the public, the duo succeeded in chaining many strikes against their competitors, thus winning the regional victory.

The cup for the event was given to them by last year’s winners, Marcel 95 and Monique 71, residents of the same establishment in Laillé who finished on the top step of the podium in the national final. A path that Daniel and Yvette hope to follow, next November in Paris, for the grand final of the senior trophy.
