Two men arrested after Leeds fan left covered in blood following attack outside Norwich stadium

Police have confirmed two men have been arrested after a Leeds fan was left covered in blood following an attack following Sunday’s match against Norwich.

The Championship rivals were playing the first leg of their play-off semi-final, which ended in a 0-0 draw, but scenes appeared to have taken an ugly turn after the game at Carrow Road.

According to a Leeds season ticket holder on X, his father was attacked outside the stadium, having his neck cut with a knife and having a full can thrown at him.

The alleged sick chants referred to two Leeds supporters who were killed before their 2000 UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in Istanbul.

“My dad just got cut in the neck,” Xuser wrote @DorsetHottub.

“The young people thought it would be nice to sing about Galatasaray and the Turks with knives against us – it’s shocking to see.”

In a second message he said: “We walked out of Carrow Road after the match to the sounds of Turks with knives and Galatasaray chanting.

“While asking the guys why this was said, my father was slashed in the neck with a blade and hit with a full can. If anyone knows anything, speak up.

Police have not confirmed whether knives were involved in the incident, but confirmed that a man in his 20s and a man in his 50s had been arrested.

Meanwhile, Norfolk Police also said they were searching for another man who they believe was involved in the incident.

A statement read: “Two men have been arrested following an incident in Norwich this afternoon (Sunday May 12, 2024).

“The incident happened shortly after 2pm today (Sunday 12 May 2024) when a man aged in his 60s said he was punched outside Norwich City’s stadium FC in Carrow Road An object was also allegedly thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to his chin.

“The victim was seen by emergency services on scene and did not require further medical attention.

“A man aged in his 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH assault and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning.

“A man aged in his 50s was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning.

“Both men remain in custody.

“Officers believe another man was also involved in this afternoon’s incident and inquiries are underway to locate him.

“An investigation has been opened to establish all the exact circumstances of what happened.

“Officers would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone in the area at the time to provide them with any information or phone footage of the incident. They are asked to make contact via the following channels quoting crime reference 36/32293/24:

The second leg of the play-off semi-final takes place on Thursday evening and the winner will meet the winner of the West Brom v Southampton clash, with that first leg also ending goalless, in the final at Wembley on Sunday May 26.
