Gukesh Domomraju had a forgetful race during the opening event of the Freestyle Grand Chelem tour in Weissenhaus, Germany. Two months after being crowned the youngest world champion in Singapore and less than two weeks after winning almost the Tata Steel Chess tournament, the 18 -year -old Indian Master did not win a single match in Chess960 format.
Gukesh ended up finishing 8th of the 10 players at the Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort, being eliminated in the quarter-final before losing its two classification games of the 5th-8th. Of the 17 games he played in fast and classic time controls, Chennai Lad pulled 11 years and lost six.
Gukesh will have the opportunity to retaliate during the second event of the Lucrative Tour in Paris, where the compatriots Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa – who beat him in the title of failures of Tata Steel – will also be in action.
However, before turning our attention to the Paris leg, we take a look at two vital lessons that Gukesh will have learned at the seaside resort located on the German Baltic Coast to the north:
The American Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura had recently explained that Gukesh’s “greatest weakness” was that his intuition was not so large, especially when she is low in time, and fight against calculations.
“I would probably say that the greatest weakness that Gukesh has currently is that when he is low in time, I do not think that his intuition is so large, and he simply could not work on Fischer Random Championship calculation, said Chess.com.
Gukesh coach Grzegorz Gajewski, however, came to his defense, specifying that it was the intuition “Chess960” on which Gukesh needed to work and not on his classic intuition because he turned out to be a winning machine in this format recently.
“In 960, the calculation can be very misleading because you have to pay attention to the movements that you calculate.
“So, yes, he must improve his intuition. But by intuition, I mean the intuition Chess960. Because many movements which seem intuitively well in conventional failures are only pure errors in 960, “said the Polish grand master in a live flow led by Chessbase India.
A common show during the Freestyle Chess Tour event in Weissenhaus was that the players gathered around a painting discussing the possible openings after the layout of the pieces on the set was known only 15 minutes before a match. Among the players who have often been seen discuss tactics with legends of the game such that Magnus Carlsen was the German general manager Vincent Keymer.
Keymer was going to win a superb victory on Carlsen in the semi-finals before defeating Fabiano Caruana in the final to win the $ 200,000 award.

Gukesh, on the other hand, was seen seated by a board alone, contemplating his movements. Given that it is not as used in unpredictable format as regarding conventional failures, perhaps participation in these brainstorming sessions could have helped.
“I think it can only be for your disadvantage if you do not analyze together. I don’t know why Gukesh does not analyze with Fabiano. For me, it’s just crazy. Whether I analyze with Fabiano, or even if I am not, I watch his game, and I just try to follow what he does. You know, I just think in Fabiano, so it’s much easier if you can do it, “added Nakamura, who finished fifth in Weissenhaus.
