Two JRPGs inspired by the classics are currently doing very well on Kickstarter: one was over 750% funded and the other was fully funded in less than 48 hours.

Two Japanese-inspired RPGs that borrow from classics of the genre are thriving on Kickstarter.

Runa is the “Xenoblade Chronicles meets Persona” game we’ve talked about before, due to its lush fields and social systems that allow you to get closer to the characters in the world. From the Madrid-based team, Runa ended its crowdfunding campaign after reaching over $375,000 or £296,494, 750% more than its initial goal.

Runa also achieved most of its stretch goals, allowing for a fishing mini-game, farming and cooking mini-games, English voice acting, additional quests, dateable characters, and a secret objective unlocked after completion of the campaign: more ultimate skills to use in battle. .

The other big Kickstarter success comes from Alzara: Radiant Echoes, which takes inspiration from Final Fantasy 9 and Nintendo’s sleepy Golden Sun series. This game reached its crowdfunding goal in less than two days and has currently raised over $125,000/£100,000 so far.

Alzara’s backers have unlocked ambitious goals promising an English dub and, uh, funding for the game, of course. If Alzara’s campaign achieves its next goal, which oddly enough doesn’t have a number, then Dark Souls and Star Ocean composer Motoi Sakuraba will reportedly be featured on the entire soundtrack.

Japanese-developed RPGs also had a bruising year between the release of the sun-drenched and melancholic Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the dark but completely remade Persona 3 Reload, the massive Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the long, long, long -expected Dragon’s Dogma 2.
