Two injured in Syria in an Israeli strike, according to the Syrian Ministry of Defense

An Israeli airstrike was carried out on July 2 on the west coast of Syria, injuring two civilians, assured the Syrian Ministry of Defense. “Around 6:30 this morning, the Israeli enemy army carried out a strike” near the town of Al-Hamidiyeh, south of Tartous, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The raid was carried out from the Mediterranean Sea, west of the Lebanese city of Tripoli (north), “and two civilians were injured, including a woman,” said the ministry, citing a military source. The strike targeted poultry farms, according to the ministry. Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in its neighbor, targeting positions of the Syrian army, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah, allies of Damascus. Israel rarely comments on its strikes against Syria but says it will not let Iran extend its influence to Israel’s borders.

On June 10, the Israeli air force bombed Damascus airport, located in the south of the Syrian capital, damaging buildings and putting the landing strips out of service. Russian diplomacy had condemned “irresponsible acts”.
