A 28-year-old Afghan man was arrested on Wednesday following a stabbing attack in a park in the German town of Aschaffenburg, in which two people were killed, including a toddler, police said .
The suspect was arrested at the scene in Schoental Park, an English-style garden in the Bavarian town, where the attack took place around 11:45 a.m. local time (5:45 a.m. ET).
A 41-year-old man and a two-year-old boy were fatally injured, police said in a message posted on the social media platform X. Two seriously injured people were hospitalized.
Police said there was no indication of other suspects and there was no danger to the public.
The stabbing attacks add to a series of violent attacks in Germany that have raised security concerns and stoked tensions over migration in the run-up to the Feb. 23 parliamentary election.
A Saudi doctor was arrested after a vehicular attack on a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg on December 20, in which six people were killed and around 200 injured.
