Twitter users across India reported outages on Sunday evening.

Users reported that their timelines were not loading and their accounts were showing as non-existent.

The Downdetector website reported 2,850 outages in India as of 7:22 p.m.

Outage just a day before Twitter Blue relaunch

The outage comes just a day before the platform will relaunch its Twitter Blue subscription service which will include a system for authenticating accounts on the platform.

A blue checkmark on an account, which indicates it has been verified by Twitter, was previously free but restricted to organizations and public figures in an effort to prevent impersonation and misinformation.

After buying Twitter in October, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced plans to diversify the company’s revenue streams beyond advertising, by turning to new paid plans for premium features.

The first version was launched 10 days after Musk’s takeover in early November, but caused an uproar when numerous fake accounts appeared posing as celebrities or companies. The release was quickly suspended.
