Twin Cities woman sentenced to 90 days off work for stabbing her fiancé’s dog to death

MINNEAPOLIS– A Twin Cities woman was sentenced to 90 days of work release and four years of probation for stabbing her fiancé’s dog to death in 2021.

Barbara Crosby accepted a plea deal for an animal abuse count in April. She was sentenced on Wednesday.

Charging documents said a Labrador retriever was stabbed and leashed to a tree near a walking path in Lakeville. An autopsy of the dog revealed he had died from multiple stab wounds and had been injected with a mixture of opioid painkillers and anti-anxiety medications.

Crosby was walking the dog hours before he died, documents show. When she spoke to officers, they noted that she had scratches on her hands consistent with dog scratches.

Multiple sources told investigators it was well known that Crosby disliked the dog, the complaint states.
