Turkey now allows visa applications for digital nomads

Digital nomads are now welcome in Türkiye.

The country joins Italy, which recently made a similar announcement, in offering a visa to traveling professionals who want to work remotely in Turkey for an extended period.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has created a website dedicated to digital nomads that provides a list of eligibility requirements and steps in the application process. The site also provides resources on how to get started in several of its major cities.

The Digital Nomad Identification Certificate, which is the first step toward a digital nomad visa, is open to remote workers ages 21 to 55.

They must provide proof that they graduated from college, work in the “digital nomad field” and earn at least $3,000 per month, or $36,000 per year, according to the site.

Applicants must also have a passport or travel documents valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Turkey. The offer is only aimed at citizens of several European countries as well as Canada, Russia and the United States.

If approved, it’s as simple as applicants receiving a certificate with a barcode that they can use to apply for the digital nomad visa at the Turkish consulate.

However, life in the countryside is not all rosy. Over the years, Turkish citizens have faced rising inflation, and even though the country raised its minimum wage by 49% in 2024 to around $525 per month, many are still struggling.

However, more and more millennials and Generation Z are giving up on their dreams of owning a home in the United States. Some have therefore chosen to spend their time traveling and working abroad instead of saving for a first home.

Earlier this month, Italy announced it would welcome remote workers and their families with renewable digital nomad visas.
