Tulsi Gabbard challenges Kamala Harris’s hypocrisy on Brittney Griner after prosecuting marijuana-related crimes as California AG

On FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Friday, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) slammed Vice President Kamala Harris for her double standard of justice toward WNBA player Brittney Griner.

Griner was sentenced to nine years in Russia for violating Russian drug laws after being caught in possession of cannabis vape cartridges.

Gabbard compared Harris’ remarks calling for Griner’s release to his tenure as California attorney general and having prosecuted and incarcerated those charged with possession of marijuana.

“[A]Another note of hypocrisy coming from Kamala Harris and this administration is, as you mentioned, how during his illustrious record as Attorney General of California you gave some of these examples,” said Gabbard. “She kept prisoners in jail longer than their sentences to use them as free labor. Yet, at the same time, these same people are condemning other countries for doing the exact same thing. It does not mean anything.

“What struck me when I saw Kamala Harris’ tweet and statement expressing her outrage about Brittney Griner, first of all let me say, I don’t think anyone in the world should be imprisoned for possession of marijuana,” she continued. . “Period. Full stop. When you watch Kamala Harris’ statement on Twitter, she expresses this outrage about Brittney Griner. My question for her and the Biden administration is, where is your outrage for your fellow Americans who are in prison today here in the United States of America because of minor marijuana violations?

“How come you don’t fight as hard for them to be sent home and reunited with their families as you do for Brittney Griner?” Added Gabbard. “And to me, the message to the American people through his actions is loud and clear. It’s that if you’re rich and powerful or famous, you’ll get special treatment from this administration. If you’re not, we don’t care about you, and we’ll let you sit around and rot in jail.
