TSA marks record number of passengers as Memorial Day weekend begins

More than 2.9 million passengers were screened Friday at airports nationwide, representing the largest number of people screened by the Transportation Security Administration in 22 years, the agency said.

The 2,951,163 air passengers screened surpassed the previous record of 2,908,785 recorded in November during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

The TSA screened 2,887,605 passengers Thursday, according to the agency.

The TSA expects more than 18 million air travelers to pass through airport security between Friday and next Wednesday.
