A press release from the Ministry of Defense entitled “The months of identity died in DOD” indicates that official resources, including working hours, will no longer be used to mark months of cultural awareness. Trump’s proclamation specifically noted the contributions of the abolitionists Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman, the conservative economist Thomas Sowell and the judge of the Supreme Court Clarence Thomas. He said that their achievements “made the tradition of equality advance monumental under the law in our great country” and are a continuous inspiration.

The declaration also listed the Golfer Tiger Woods as a great American, saying that he was one of those who “pushed the limits of excellence in their respective fields, opening the way to others to follow”.

“This national month of the history of blacks, while America is preparing to enter a historic golden age,” said proclamation, “I want to extend my enormous gratitude to black Americans for everything they made us to bring us at this time, and for the many future contributions they will make when we will progress in the future of unlimited possibility under my administration.
