The Ukrainian government seemed to be distant from Zaluzhny’s remarks on Thursday afternoon. When approached by Politico, his Ministry of Foreign Affairs replied that the opinion expressed by the Ukrainian ambassador had been his personal position.
Zaluzhny said to the Chatham House reflection group: “We see that it is not only the axis of evil and Russia that tries to revise the world order, but the United States finally destroys this order.”
He warned that Trump’s negotiations with Russia for the end of the war were a sign that the White House made “steps towards the Kremlin, trying to meet them halfway”.
Since his entry into office, Trump has undertaken to end the Russian War with Ukraine – but has evolved with peace talks without directly involving Ukraine, has drawn American aid for the country and refused to engage in security guarantees in a post -war settlement.
Zaluzhny was previously commander-in-chief of the army and was largely congratulated for having rejected the large-scale invasion of Russia in February 2022. However, he was dismissed at the start of last year after the kyiv’s counter-offensive stadium and became the ambassador to the United Kingdom in July.
The ambassador suggested that the next target of Moscow “could be Europe” and said that a recent break in intelligence was “a huge challenge for the whole world”.
His remarks occurred after Politico reported on Thursday that four senior members of Trump’s entourage had secret discussions with some of the best national political opponents in Zelenskyy.
