Trump’s son Barron, 18, steps back from political debut

Donald TrumpBarron’s youngest son, 18, withdrew Friday from his planned political debut, withdrawing from his position as a delegate to the Republican Party convention in July.

Barron, who has largely been out of the public eye, made headlines around the world this week when it emerged he would be the latest member of the Trump family to enter the political arena.

But a statement from his mother’s office Melanie Trumpthe third wife of the former president, quickly put an end to the proposed convention.

“While Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” he said.

The Milwaukee convention will see the official coronation of Trump as Republican challenger to Democratic President Joe Biden, with delegates from each state nominating their candidate for the November election.

Barron reportedly appeared alongside his siblings Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump And Tiffany Trump within the Florida delegation.

Barron lived in the White House as a child when his father was president, but he was fiercely shielded from public view.

Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, was a senior adviser during his first presidency alongside her husband Jared Kushner, while Don Jr. and Eric are regulars at Trump rallies and on the campaign trail.

In March, the Republican National Committee elected Eric’s wife Lara to a leadership position.
