Trump widens national lead over Biden, CBS News poll finds

When former President Donald Trump accepts Republican nomination On Thursday night, he will do so with his largest national lead over President Biden in the campaign So far.

For voters, the perception of Trump’s handling of the assassination attempt is a positive reason to consider voting for him, but the effect is small overall; for two-thirds of them, it did not change their consideration calculus one way or the other.

Among the candidates leading the party lists, Trump is the one voters say is fighting “a lot” for people like them.

In the Democratic nomination debate, Trump is also ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris in a hypothetical matchup. There are marginal differences at best in how she and Mr. Biden are currently performing among demographic groups, such as young voters and voters of color.

A substantial portion of his party still believes Mr. Biden should withdraw as a candidate, and Democrats continue to lag behind Republicans in their expressed likelihood of running for reelection this year.

There is a bipartisan view — though particularly among Republicans — that the U.S. Secret Service could have done more to prevent the attack. filming SATURDAY.
