A federal appeals court on Friday upheld criminal contempt over Congress’ conviction of former Trump White House senior adviser Steve Bannon for refusing to testify and provide documents to the House committee that investigated the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The ruling by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit makes it more likely that Bannon will soon have to begin serving a four-month prison sentence for his conviction on two counts of contempt of court. Congress. .

But Bannon could ask the full D.C. Circuit judges to hear his appeal again. He could also ask the U.S. Supreme Court to appeal Friday’s ruling.

Such requests generally have a very high chance of not being successful.

In March, Peter Navarro, another former adviser to ex-President Donald Trump, began serving a four-month federal prison sentence after the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of his conviction for refusing to comply with a January 6 House subpoena. Committee.
