New York (AP) – President Donald Trump underwent “mental anxiety” of the modification of CBS News from an “60 -minute” interview with the Democratic opponent Kamala Harris last fall, his lawyers argue in legal documents.
Trump’s status as a “content creator” was also damaged by the attention granted to the interview, lawyers said. It was part of their argument opposed to the efforts of the parent of CBS Paramount Global to reject the trial of $ 20 billion from the president against the company, deposited on Wednesday before the American district court in Amarillo, Texas. Trump said that the edition was done to Harris advantage, which CBS rejects.
Even with the effort to reject the case, Paramount is engaged in settlement discussions with Trump. The prospect of a regulation has shaken CBS so much that Two of its senior executives resigned in protest.
Trump, who did not agree to be interviewed by “60 minutes” during the campaign, protested against the editing where Harris is seen by giving two different answers to a question of the Bill Whitaker program in separate clips broadcast on “60 minutes” and “facing the nation” earlier during the day. CBS said each response came to Harris’ long response to Whitaker, but was published to be more succinct.
Trump lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik said that “this has led to generalized confusion and the mental anxiety of consumers, including the complainants, concerning a familiar name in the inherited media who apparently distorts his programs in a misleading, then resist attempts to eliminate the public file.”
Because they were misleading, the voters caught Trump’s attention and his social platform for truth, said Paltzik.
Trump, described as an “media icon” by his lawyers, was “forced to redirect a lot of time, money and efforts to correct the public file,” he said.
Paramount and the control shareholder, Shari Redstone, seek the regulation with Trump, whose administration must approve the merger proposed by the company with Skydance Media. The president and chief executive officer of CBS News, Wendy McMahon, and the executive producer of “60 minutes” Bill OwensWho have both opposed a regulation, have resigned in recent weeks.
In the meantime, the Freedom of the press FoundationA media defense group indicates that it is a primordial shareholder, said that he would file a prosecution in protest if a settlement was concluded.
Seth Stern, director of the Foundation advocacy, said that Trump’s “without merit” trial “may well be a barely veiled effort to whiten the bribes in the justice system”. US Sens. Ron Wyden, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren said They investigate If a regulation would violate corruption laws.
THE Wall Street Journal Reported Thursday, Paramount offered $ 15 million to settle, but that Trump wants more money – and excuses. A representative of the company would not comment on the report.
