Trump slams Eric Schmitt’s campaign in Missouri for ‘gross dishonesty in politics’

Former President Donald J. Trump on Sunday night criticized Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s campaign in the U.S. Senate over a poll that Republican strategists told Breitbart News understated support of Trump in the Show Me State to boost Schmitt’s numbers.

“Wow, great dishonesty in politics. Too bad!” Trump wrote of the Remington Research Group poll — commissioned by operatives associated with the Schmitt campaign — in a Truth Social article. Remington was started by political consultancy Axiom Strategies, founded by Jeff Roe, Schmitt’s top consultant.

With voters casting their ballots in less than 36 hours, Trump’s Truth Social message says he is highly unlikely to endorse the attorney general in the race. Having previously announced that he would not support Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) and telling voters they “could forget about her,” only one candidate appears to be in the running for his support: former Gov. Eric Greitens (R-MO ).

In the poll, Trump received 42% of responses for the 2024 Republican primary, putting him above Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) at 18% and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) at 6%. 17% supported other candidates, while the remaining 17% supported other potential candidates. But three Republican strategists told Breitbart News that Trump’s lead was even more impressive and said the poll was bogus. Some have suggested that it is deliberately dishonest to show Schmitt leading his opponents.

“This is a completely bogus poll commissioned by the RINO establishment that is looking to get rid of President Trump,” a national Republican operative who advises candidates in Missouri and Florida, among other places, told Breitbart News. “There’s no way Missouri, a Trump deep state, will ever vote for someone like Ron DeSantis. President Trump dominates the state and every other state in the country.

“President Trump is way higher in Missouri than this poll indicates, and everyone knows that,” a second GOP strategist told Breitbart News. “Clearly something funky is going on in Missouri with people trying to undermine Trump’s return to the White House. Take that with a very big grain of salt.

The poll shows Schmitt leading the pack at 34%, followed by Hartzler at 22% and Greitens at 18%.

The second strategist added:

If this poll accurately measured Trump’s support in 2024 and had it where it really isn’t where Schmitt needs it to look like he’s leading, that means something like 20 points or more must move to Trump from the published results of this investigation. – and that means Greitens would jump much higher and Schmitt would fall. Also, the Hartzler number is far too high for this survey to be accurate. When Trump announced he wasn’t going to support her, crowds evaporated from his events and no one went. In reality, the field is probably currently Greitens in the low 30s leading a few points, Schmitt second somewhere in the high 20s, and Hartzler in the lower double digits or high single digits. And in reality, Trump’s support is far north of 65% and possibly even north of 70%, which is proof that the pollster changed those numbers for an ulterior motive.

“Something is wrong with those numbers, and you have to wonder why,” a third strategist told Breitbart News.

“Maybe it’s because the only way Schmitt’s team can alter a poll to make it look like they’re leading in the post-election Missouri Senate primaries is to bring Trump to his knees and to stimulate perceived potential rivals in an imminent bid for 2024,” the strategist said. added.

An Excalibur Strategies survey obtained exclusively by Breitbart News showed Greitens at 34%, Schmitt at 30% and Hartzler at 21% Friday night.
