Trump says that he will probably extend the deadline for the sale of Tiktok

  • Tiktok could face a stop in the United States if he does not find a new owner by April 5.
  • But President Donald Trump says that he could again extend the deadline for sale if necessary.
  • The big buyers like Kevin O’Leary and Alexis Ohanian expressed their interest in Tiktok.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that there was “a lot of interest” in a potential tiktok agreement and that it was open to extend the sales deadline if necessary.

“We have a lot of interest for Tiktok,” Trump told journalists at a press conference at the Oval Office, adding that he hopes China will approve the agreement.

When asked if he would extend the deadline, Trump said that it would depend on how the sales process took place.

“Well, we will see. For the moment, we have at least a month again, so we do not need an extension. But if I needed an extension, I would probably prolonged it,” said Trump.

Under the disinvestment or bank law adopted by the Senate in April, Tiktok was supposed to stop operating in the United States on January 19 if he does not divest his Chinese owner, Bytedance. But the ban was interrupted for 75 days after Trump signed a decree on January 20.

Tiktok has until April 5 to find a new owner in the United States.

The representatives of the White House and Tiktok did not respond to requests for comments from Business Insider.

Tiktok Sale has aroused the interest of buyers of big names

Trump has launched several ways to save Tiktok. Shortly after signing the prescription prohibiting the ban, Trump said the United States should have half Tiktok. He also said that the company could be sold to technological billionaires like Elon Musk and Larry Ellison.

Last month, Trump signed a decree to establish a sovereign fund for the United States. Trump told journalists at the time that the new fund could be used to buy Tiktok.

Several big name buyers such as the former secretary of the Trump Treasury, Steve Mnuchin, have expressed their interest in the purchase of Tiktok.

A consortium of large buyers has also been assembled, in the form of “popular offer”. On Tuesday, Alexis Ohanian, the co -founder of Reddit, announced that he was making a joint offer for Tiktok with the former owner of Los Angeles Dodgers, Frank McCourt, and the star of “Shark Tank” Kevin O’Leary.

“Tiktok has changed the situation for the creators, and its future should be built by them,” wrote Ohanian in an X Post on Tuesday.
