President Trump said on Wednesday that Harvard should have a ceiling on the number of international students he admits to having created more spots for the Americans, undervaluating the argument of his administration according to which the merit alone should guide admission practices when it degenerates its struggle with the elite university.
Trump’s comments came in response to a question on the recent decision of the Ministry of Internal Security at revoke The school’s ability to register foreign students. The college immediately disputed this decision before the court, and a federal judge temporarily blocked the policy.
However, the State Department has since interrupted Interviews abroad with foreign citizens apply for student and exchange visas while the government is expanding its meticulous examination of candidates’ social media publications, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that Trump administration would begin to revoke student visas for Chinese citizens.
Politics changes follow efforts to suppress universities, including Harvard, on what the administration has said it was a failure to fight anti -Semitism on the campus. Trump also attacked policies aimed at supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in an attempt to bring the academic world closer to more than white men and those who have traditional gender opinions are discriminated against.
Harvard has so far resisted considerable pressures from the government to adopt the changes sought by Trump to his study program, his hiring and admission practices. But the government could potentially limit the number of international students authorized to study in the United States overall, an idea to which Trump alluded on Wednesday.
Mr. Trump expressed his indignation that about a quarter of the Harvard student body is made up of international students, against about a fifth in 2010, according to the university data. (Mr. Trump said that the figure was 31% this year, which seemed incorrect.)
