The details of the agreement were not immediately available. But the pact would represent a significant step forward for the United States, which has been mired in negotiations with dozens of countries since it threatened the high prices on its global trade partners last month.
It would also represent a victory for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who struggles in the polls and tried to prioritize the construction of bridges with Washington at a time when other world leaders have adopted a confrontation approach.
A Starmer spokesman said Thursday morning: “The Prime Minister will still act in the national interest of Great Britain-for workers, for business, for families.
“The United States is an essential ally for our economic and national security. Discussions on an agreement between our countries have continued in Pace and the Prime Minister will update later during the day. ”
Starmer and his ministers want the agreement to reduce the 25% of the White House prices on imports from the automotive, steel and aluminum sectors of Great Britain and is kept against other tariffs on pharmaceutical exports.
The agreement is the first to be announced during the 90 -day break on Trump’s “Liberation Day” prices announced last month.
