President Donald Trump said Thursday that he didn’t really need to have Elon Musk in his administration.
“Elon did a fantastic job. Listen, he is sitting here, and I don’t care. I don’t need Elon for something else I love,” Trump told journalists at a meeting from the White House.
Trump said Thursday that he had recently bought a Tesla vehicle as a “support demonstration” from Musk.
“I don’t need his car. I bought one, and they said,” Oh, did you have a good deal? “No. I said,” Give me the highest price. I paid a lot of money for this car, “said Trump.
The purchase of Trump took place during a White House event last month, where he was seen trying a Tesla Model S with Musc.
“He did a fantastic job, but he was not treated properly,” said Trump about Musk on Thursday.
Musk, who was in Reunion, was seen with a smile and nodding the remarks of Trump.
Musk was the spearhead of cost reduction efforts at the White House office. In an attempt to reduce expenses, DOGE has dismissed thousands of civil servants and closed foreign aid programs. These fast cuts have aroused fear and chaos through government.
Musk said Thursday’s firm that Doge will reduce nearly $ 150 billion in spending for the year 2026.
But these large Cups in Doge and the disturbances that accompany them also affected Musk’s commercial interests. The Tesla exposure to the national level were the target of the demonstrations, and the owners of Tesla said that their vehicles had been degraded.
“If you read the news, it’s like Armageddon. I can’t go in front of the TV without seeing a Tesla on fire. What’s going on?” Musk told Tesla employees at a meeting every hand last month.
“Listen, I understand that if you don’t want to buy our product, but you don’t have to burn it. It’s a bit unreasonable,” added Musk.
Musk was one of Trump’s greatest supporters. Tesla CEO and SpaceX spent at least $ 277 million to support Trump and other GOP candidates in last year’s elections.
But Musk seemed to break up with the administration after Trump announced scanning prices on more than 180 countries last week.
Musk called for a “free trade area” between Europe and the United States at a meeting with the Italian League party on Saturday. Musk also criticized Trump’s best advisor, Peter Navarro, saying that he was “more stupid than a brick bag” after calling Musk a “car assembler”.
Last week, vice-president JD Vance told Fox News in an interview that Musk would remain adviser even after having finished his work with Doge.
Trump said on April 3 that he expects Musk to leave his administration “in a few months”, but said he wanted Musk to stay “as long as possible”.
Musk is now working for administration as an employee of the special government. According to federal law, these employees cannot work for more than 130 days in a period of 365 days.
“Elon Musk and President Trump both publicly declared that Elon would move away from the public service as an employee of the special government when her incredible work in Doge is finished,” wrote the white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt in an X Post on April 2.
Musk and the White House did not respond to requests for comments from Business Insider.
