As his inauguration scheduled for January 20 approaches, Donald Trump reiterated his warning to Hamas, urging it to release the hostages still present in the Palestinian enclave before his return to the White House.
The president-elect of the United States has once again raised his voice on the subject of Hamas and the release of hostages from the Palestinian enclave.
In an interview with conservative columnist Hugh Hewitt broadcast on January 6, Donald Trump reiterated his warning to Hamas, launched in early December, promising that “it will be hell if the hostages are not released” before his inauguration on January 20.
“I don’t need to go into detail, but it’s not going to be just a ‘don’t do that,'” he said. “These hostages must come out, they must come out now,” he insisted.
To date, of the 251 people taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 96 are still in the Gaza Strip, 34 of whom have been declared dead by the Israeli army.
“I am with Israel”
“I am with Israel, that is obvious to everyone,” said the former president, before adding: “But I must also say that I am for peace. It’s time. This conflict has gone on for too long.”
On this subject, indirect negotiations have resumed in Doha between the Gazan Palestinian movement and the Israeli authorities. A Hamas official told a French news agency on January 5 that he was ready to release 34 new hostages, without specifying whether they were alive or dead.
While Hamas published a video of an Israeli hostage on January 4, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, emphasized in a message on the X platform that “Israel continues[rait] to work tirelessly to bring Leary and all those abducted home, and even now, efforts continue on all fronts.”
He also warned that “anyone who dares to hurt Leary or any of our abductees will have blood on their heads.” “We will continue to fight until all our sons and daughters are back with their families,” he also reiterated.
