Trump plans to send $ 8 billion in weapons to Israel, bypassing certain legislators

The State Department has given an official notification to the congress that it plans to move forward with sales of more than $ 8 billion in weapons in Israel, bypassing an in progress informal examination process in a Chamber Committee.

This decision took place only a few days after President Trump met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and said that the United States “would take over” from the devastated Gaza Strip and transform it into “Riviera du Moyen -East”.

Friday, the State Department officially informed the congress of its intention. On the same day, the Pentagon published two new press releases, one saying that it sold 3,000 air missiles to Hellfire to Israel worth 660 million dollars, and another saying that he sent $ 6.75 billion in bombs and orientation kits. The Pentagon did not publish a press release for the sale of artillery shells which, as direct commercial sale, did not require that the ministry published a detailed declaration. US officials also included additional bombs. Together, all sales earned $ 8.4 billion.

Biden administration announced the sale of $ 8 billion in early January, then sent the entire package to the Chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Committee for Foreign Relations for Informal Examination. During this process, legislators can ask detailed questions in the State Department on sales before deciding to approve them or not.

The two best republican legislators of the committees gave their approval, and a Democratic senator finally did, but the Gregory W. Meeks in New York, the best democrat of the Committee, decided to use the examination process to pose No more questions.

The State Department advanced the package after being seated in an informal exam for more than 20 days, the typical time granted to the higher legislators for their arms sales examination in Israel. The normal informal examination time varies depending on the partner country.
