US President Donald Trump has ordered authorities to plan the declassification of documents related to three of the most important assassinations in the history of the United States: the murders of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

“Many people have been waiting for this for years, decades,” Trump told journalists in the oval office on Thursday. “And everything will be revealed.”

The order orders the senior administration officials to present a declaration of documents within 15 days. However, this does not guarantee that this will happen.

President John F. Kennedy was killed in Dallas in 1963. His brother Robert F. Kennedy was murdered while he presented himself as president of California in 1968, only two months after the assassination of King, the most famous American leader in civil rights, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Many documents related to surveys have been published in the years that have followed, even if thousands are still expared, in particular with regard to the sprawling investigation into JFK.

President John F. Kennedy was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, a veteran of the Marines who defected in the Soviet Union and then returned to the United States.

A government commission determined that OSwald had acted alone.

However, questions that have remained unanswered for a long time have weighed on the case and gave birth to alternative theories on the involvement of government agents, mafia and other harmful characters, as well as conspiracy theories eccentric.

Opinion polls over the decades have said that most Americans do not believe that Oswald was the only murderer.

In 1992, the Congress adopted a law authorizing the publication of all the documents related to the survey within 25 years. Trump during his first term and President Joe Biden published piles of documents related to JFK, but thousands – out of a total of millions – are still partially or completely secret.

Trump had promised to declare all the files during his first mandate, but returned to his promise after CIA and FBI officials persuaded him to keep certain secret files. Today’s decree declares that the maintenance of secrecy “is not compatible with the public interest”.

“As a declaration of intention, it is great that the president has put his promise on paper. It is important,” said Jefferson Morley, former journalist of the Washington Post, expert in assassination of JFK and editor of the chief of the chief of Online newsletter. Facts on JFK.

“But the details and implementation are essential. This process is only just beginning. The exact way it will take place is not at all clear,” he said.

Recently published documents have revealed new details on the circumstances surrounding the assassination, in particular on the in -depth surveillance of Oswald by the CIA.

In 2023, Paul Landis, a former 88 -year -old secret service agent who witnessed the assassination at close range, said he was shot in the car after Kennedy was shot.

Experts claim that this detail complicates the official version that only one ball affected both the president and the Governor of Texas, John Connally, who was in the procession and survived the shooting.

Morley said that new information threw even more doubt about the theory that Oswald acted alone and predicted that a complete publication of all the expurgated documents could make a significant contribution to the knowledge of the public.

But he added that there may not have been irrefutable proof and that the CIA and other security officials would pressure to maintain a certain level of secret.

“This story is not over,” he said.

During the signing ceremony at the White House Thursday, Trump asked that the pen he used to sign the order be given to Robert F Kennedy Jr, who is the son of RFK, the JFK nephew and the candidate from the president to the post of secretary to health.

RFK JR has long questioned the official accounts about the assassination of his uncle as well as that of his father, Robert F Kennedy.

Kennedy SR was killed in a Los Angeles ballroom by Sirhan Sirhan, an angry Palestinian against American support in Israel. RFK Jr spoke to Sirhan in prison and said he did not believe that Sirhan killed his father, although other members of the Kennedy family reject this assertion.

Martin Luther King Jr was killed by the white nationalist James Earl Ray. King family members said that Ray had not acted alone and was part of a larger plot.
