The Trump Administration Investigates James Comey, the former director of the FBI who was dismissed by President Trump during his first mandate, for a publication on social networks which, according to officials, constituted a call to the assassination of Mr. Trump, said members of the president of the president on Thursday evening.
Instagram publication, which Mr. Comey later removed and said was not conceived as a call for violence, showed shells on a beach forming the “86 47” figures, a sentence used by online president’s criticisms, during demonstrations and signs and clothing. “Eighty-six years”, according to Merriam-Webster, is a former slang term meaning to reject or withdraw, and Mr. Trump is the 47th president.
The sentence was not previously described by the officials of the current administration as threatening Mr. Trump, but shortly after Mr. Comey published the post on Thursday, Kristi Noem, the secretary of internal security, said that the former FBI director had “called to the assassination” of Mr. Trump and that “DHS and the secret services appropriate ”.
Other senior officials from the high -level Trump administration quickly sounded to denounce Mr. Comey’s position, which he had already deleted and replaced by a new message which he “did not realize that some people associate these figures with violence”. Kash Patel, the current FBI director, announced that his agency “would support the investigation” by the secret services, and Tulsi Gabbard, the national intelligence director, appeared on Fox News a few hours later and said Comey should be imprisoned.
“James Comey, in my opinion, should be held responsible and put behind bars,” said Gabbard in an interview with Jesse Watters.
Critics calling on the president to be “86’d” returns at least to Mr. Trump’s first term. A few weeks before the 2020 elections, Mr. Trump’s re -election campaign seized a pin that said “86,45” which could be seen on a table behind Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan in a television interview. Affirming that “86 may be a shortcut for killing someone,” the Trump campaign accused Ms. Whitmer of “encouraging assassination attempts against President Trump”.
After President Joseph R. Biden Jr. took office, clothes and panels with “86,46”, referring to Mr. Biden, quickly started to appear and continue to be sold online. During the 2024 campaign, Trump published a video featuring an image of Mr. Biden Hogtied at the back of a truck, an imagery that had spread among the disciples of Mr. Trump. Trump had frequently presented violent images on his social media accounts during the campaign.
