Trump mocked for ‘pretending to be president’ in bizarre ceremony
Donald Trump hasn’t set foot in the White House since leaving office more than three years ago, but that didn’t stop him from claiming it’s still his residence this week when he offered a visitor the key to the building.
Trump gave the baffling gift to former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, who visited him Tuesday at Trump Tower in New York as the former president finished a day in court in the Stormy Daniels silence case.
Aso has a history of praising Nazis and Adolf Hitler, but Trump called it a “great honor” to meet him. Then he presented Aso with a ceremonial key to the White House.
The Washington Post reported that Trump liked to give out ceremonial keys when he was president, telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he could use them to gain entry virtually forever.
“Even though I’m no longer president, you can go to the front door of the White House and present it, and they’ll let you in,” he told Netanyahu, according to Jared’s 2022 book Kushner, who is Trump’s businessman. son-in-law and served as a White House advisor.
Trump critics unleash on X:
Very strange that this criminal claims to be president. It would be far more appropriate if he started handing out the honorary keys to his prison cell. https://t.co/S6mSaPP9IJ

Donald Trump welcomes former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso to Trump Tower and presents him with what appears to be a “key” to the White House. I don’t know what gives him the right to do that. Probably citizen Trump once again pretending to be president. pic.twitter.com/v8Oc24TvEZ

Was it one of the stolen items he refused to return?

Trump and former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso pose with a “ceremonial key” to the White House on Tuesday. It was yesterday Tuesday, not Tuesday from 01/20/17 to 01/20/21. If he thinks he has the right to do this, what else does he give? pic.twitter.com/OOk2FVpIBY

Has anyone counted the silver and gold @White House upon his departure. These are minor improvements over secret nuclear documents ☢️.
