The negotiation of the oval office on the prices accelerates.
One day after a Japanese delegation met President Trump, it was the turn of Italy, with the arrival of the White House Thursday of one of the few European leaders that Trump loves: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
While Mr. Trump and Vice-President JD Vance explained it during a lunch for Ms. Meloni in the cabinet room and a session at the Oval office, they want his conservative and more nationalist opinions to become a model for the rest of Europe.
For her part, Ms. Meloni seemed able to manage an oval office meeting with Trump: no requirement that could lead to an explosion like President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine was confronted, to praise for Mr. Trump and the Odes with her favorite causes.
“The objective for me is to make the west again large again,” she said, putting the message that there was no place in the spheres of the two leaders for diversity programs or “awakened ideology”, before pivoting to invite Mr. Trump to Italy for an official visit.
She suggested that she could use the time to bring the president to sit with the leaders of Europe, although she recognized that Mr. Trump was not engaged.
While Ms. Meloni came to Washington representing Italy, her visit was in many ways in the name of the rest of Europe, because she is looking for more sustainable relief of Mr. Trump’s prices.
