US President Donald Trump is considering various levers of pressure on Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war, especially economic, said Keith Kellogg, chosen by Trump for the position of special representative for Ukraine and Russia.
Kellogg said it in an interview with Fox News on Friday, reports Ukrinform.
Kellogg noted that he had met with Trump on this subject this morning, adding that, according to him, Trump was the only one who could end the war.
He considers the economy as an element of this war, said the retired general.
In particular, he plans to make oil cheaper, Russia receiving billions of dollars from its sale. Prices could drop up to $ 45 per barrel, which mainly corresponds to the profitability threshold, noted Kellogg, adding that it was from the American president. To this end, he also negotiates with North Koreans and Chinese, he added.
According to the candidate for the post of special envoy, Putin ignores the heavy losses of the Russian army and it is therefore impossible to address Putin to ask him to “stop killings”, because it is not the case . is part of the Russian mentality, it therefore requires a different approach.
Trump understood this well and, unlike former President Joe Biden, who pointed out that America would help Ukraine as long as it would be and continue to provide weapons, he advocates different approaches.
This is an important point, but there are others that are nonetheless, says Kellogg, adding that the president, in his opinion, is aware of it and that he will endeavor to achieve it. Kellogg said he was convinced that Donald Trump will be able to get there.
Answering a question about the possibility for Ukraine to use Russian assets to buy American weapons, he said it was a subject on the table.
The Trump team spoke several times about the use of frozen Russian assets to buy American weapons, and this will be discussed with the president, he said. Even if, in his opinion, this will not solve the problem.
Kellogg added that all these options are offered to Trump so that he can choose the one he prefers.
As Ukrinform had reported it earlier, Kellogg believes that an agreement at the end of the war may be concluded within 100 days of the mandate of the new administration.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump asked Kellogg to find a way to end the war in Ukraine within one hundred days.
