- Trump says he wants his office to direct his federal overhaul, not Elon Musk.
- Musk had a large authority to reshape the government, but Trump now seems to tighten his leash.
- The legislators and judges express their concern about the rapid cuts of Doge and unclear leadership.
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he wanted his cabinet to direct the overhaul of the federal government, not the de facto doge leader, Elon Musk.
“I had a meeting, I said I wanted the members of the cabinet to go first, keep everyone you want, all those you need,” Trump told journalists at the Oval Office. “It would be better for them to be there for two years instead of two weeks, because in two years, they will know people better. I want them to do the best possible job.”
Trump seems to write Musk’s mandate after having essentially enabled the White House office to the unanswered authority to reshape the federal government. Musk frequently boasted of everything he has done as an unofficial chief of Doge to empty the federal workforce, such as offering millions of staff members with a redemption and to reduce public spending, such as “nourishing USAID in the” wooden shredder “.
It doesn’t mean Trump is angry with musk. Trump told journalists that the billionaire was doing “incredible work” and rejected the idea that the Doge Office was moving too quickly. At the same time, Trump always wanted his office to assert more power when it comes to cutting the staff.
Although Doge was originally the idea of Musk, now that the working group has an official administrator, Trump keeps the billionaire away, at least in certain public channels.
“We say the” scalpel “rather than the” ax “,” wrote Trump on Truth Social. “The combination of them, Elon, Doge and other great people will be able to do things at a historical level.”
The lawyers continuing the Doge Office noted Trump’s comments on Tuesday during his speech at the Congress when he described Musk the “head” of Doge. An official of the White House had previously declared in court that Musk does not run the Doge Office.
The members of the Congress, including some Republicans, expressed discomfort with the extent and speed of the Doge Cups. Some of these legislators had received an ear from their voters when they returned home. Federal judges also disputed some of the cuts linked to Doge.
Several times, the lawyers of the Ministry of Justice could not answer who directs the Doge Office or if this command structure had changed. These questions remained after the White House called Amy Gleason as an interim administrator of the Doge Office. Trump has scrambled this line several times saying that Musk directs Doge, even if the richest man in the world is not an employee of the Doge office.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Business Insider.
