President Donald Trump compared the United States to a “big department store, before this company was destroyed by internet”.
In the remarks of the oval office on Thursday, he said that he thought that each country wanted “a piece of this store”.
“China wants it, Japan wants it, Mexico, Canada-they live, these two, without us, they would not have a country,” he added.
Trump answered journalists’ questions about American trade agreements with other countries.
When he was asked how long he thought that the United States needed to conclude agreements, Trump said: “I would think in the next 3 to 4 weeks.”
“I think maybe everything could be concluded,” he said.
But Trump said that, at some point, if an agreement is not concluded, a price will simply be set and the country or the market could find the rate of price too high.
“They will come back and say:” Well, we think it’s too high, and we will negotiate “or they will say something else, they will say:” Let’s see what’s going on “,” said Trump.
Trump’s recent pricing announcements have disrupted world markets and affected relations between the United States and other countries in the world.
Trump said that any country had the right to decide not to shop in the “American store” in order to avoid prices, but that “we have something else has, and it is the American consumer”.
In his remarks Thursday, Trump also said that he could not increase prices on China if it exceeds the 125% rights he currently had on American products.
“At a point, I don’t want them to go higher because at a certain time, you do it where people do not buy,” he said.
