Trump beats Biden in every swing state, new poll finds – Orange County Register
A new Emerson College/The Hill Swing State poll shows President Joe Biden trailing in seven battleground states that could prove as decisive in the next general election as they did in 2020.
According to the poll, Biden is three or more points behind former President Donald Trump in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and has gained very little ground over the course of of the last months of the campaign, despite being exceeded. elevating his Republican rival and managing to keep his schedule free from frequent court appearances.
“The state of the presidential election in swing states has remained relatively constant since Emerson and The Hill began tracking them last November. The share of undecided voters declined and Biden gained ground in Georgia and Nevada, narrowing the gap, while Trump maintained a slight advantage over Biden in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of ‘Emerson College Polling, when the survey was released. Tuesday.
Biden won most of these states in 2020 – Trump won North Carolina – and with 94 votes between them, the Electoral College math is starting to look pretty bleak for any candidate unable to win in at least 6 of 7 states interviewed.
As if that’s not bad news for the 46th president, the poll also shows that third-party candidates are only making things harder for him in most of these important elections.
“When third-party candidates are included on the ballot, support is more withdrawn from Biden than from Trump in five states: Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Support is split evenly between each candidate in Arizona and Michigan,” the pollsters wrote.
Survey participants were also asked about their thoughts on Trump’s criminal trials, which have kept him from campaigning in recent weeks and drained his cash reserves for months.
Despite the support he sees for his re-election among voters surveyed, most view the ongoing trial in New York over his alleged affair with a porn star and her resulting cover-up payment as a matter of justice and not politics.
Trump, charged with 34 counts of falsifying his business records, has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty, as he has on 54 other counts he faces in other jurisdictions.
“As the criminal trial unfolds in New York, voters were asked which statement came closest to their view: The trial is appropriate to hold Trump accountable, or the trial is a ‘witch hunt’ ‘. A majority of voters in all swing states view the trial as appropriate to hold the former president accountable,” the pollsters wrote.
Voters were almost evenly divided on the impact a possible guilty verdict would have on their choices in November, with most saying it would not affect their decision at the polls one way or the other.
“A majority of Republicans say it would make them more likely to support Trump in 2024, while 15% of Pennsylvania Republicans say they are less likely to support Trump, along with 13% in Arizona, 11% in Wisconsin, 10% in Michigan. and 9% in Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina,” the pollsters wrote.
