The high court issued the ruling in a single-sentence order, which noted only that “Bannon’s application for release pending appeal presented to the Chief Justice and referred by him to the Court is denied.”
The former principal adviser to then-President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on June 21 to suspend the date of his return to prison pending his efforts to appeal his conviction.
Bannon’s attorney did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the court order Friday afternoon.
Bannon was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress by a federal court in Washington, D.C., in July 2022.
A federal appeals court in D.C. upheld that conviction in May, rejecting Bannon’s defense that he did not break the law because his lawyer advised him not to comply with the committee’s subpoena from January 6.
