The White House has heard a choir of ideas in recent weeks to persuade the Americans to marry and have more children, an early sign that the Trump administration will embrace a new cultural program pushed by many of its allies on the right to reverse the drop in birth rate and to push conservative family values.
A proposal shared with aid would reserve 30% of scholarships for the Fulbright program, the prestigious international scholarship supported by the government, for candidates who are married or have children.
Another would give a “baby bonus” in cash of $ 5,000 to each American mother after childbirth.
A third calls on the government to finance programs that educate women on their menstrual cycles – in part so that they can better understand when they ovulate and capable of conceiving.
These ideas, and others, emerge from a movement concerned with the drop in birth rate that has been winning from Steam for years and which ultimately have allies in the American administration, including vice-president JD Vance and Elon Musk. Political experts and defenders of strengthening the birth rate have encountered aid of the White House, sometimes submitting written proposals on the means of helping or convincing women to have more babies, according to four people who have been part of the meetings who spoke subject to anonymity to discuss private conversations.
Administration officials did not indicate what ideas – if necessary – they could finally adopt. But the defenders expressed the confidence that fertility problems will become an eminent element of the agenda, noting that President Trump called for a “baby boom” and showing the symbolic power of seeing Mr. Vance and other senior officials attending public events with their children.
“I just think that this administration is intrinsically pronatalist,” said activist Simone Collins, referring to the movement to reverse the drop in birth rate.
