An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit Colombia on Sunday, said the Colombian geological service. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 km, according to the agency. As indicated by users in the SGC, the earthquake was felt in a large part of the country.
No victim was immediately reported.
The earthquake struck 17 kilometers north-east of Paraatebueno, a city about 116 miles southeast of the capital, Bogota, at 8:08 am local time.
The Colombian geological service reported additional tremors with amplitudes ranging from 4 to 4.6 in the same area a few minutes later.
The national unit for disaster risk management declared that it evaluated the situation in several municipalities.
The images published on social networks showed people in Bogota who felt the tremor – some have left their workplaces to seek security. Images of rural areas indicated that there was no damage.
Colombia is in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
