A transgender cheerleader has been expelled from Ranger College’s summer cheer camp in Texas after being accused of smothering a teammate over ‘transphobic’ words.
Police were called after Averie Chanel Medlock, a 25-year-old biological man who claims to be a transgender woman, allegedly physically assaulted a cheerleader after claiming the girl called him a transphobic name.
“Well guys, I officially retired as a cheerleader since last night at 5:30. A girl on the team was very disrespectful and told me that I was a MAN with a PENIS and that [guys] shouldn’t be on the team,” Medlock wrote in a Facebook post. “I fought back and she called her mum and dad because she was scared because I [stood] for myself. Her father said ‘she still has testosterone and a penis and I will kill whoever comes after my daughter.’
Police responded to the cheer camp at Ranger College in the central Texas town of Ranger after one of the attendees claimed Medlock attacked her, according to the New York Post.
The cheerleader who said she was attacked said she and some of her friends barricaded themselves in a room to stay safe from the trans cheerleader.
The father who called the police denied attacking Medlock’s gender or race.
“I’m asking you what you would have done if you had received a phone call at 1 a.m. from your daughter saying she had locked herself in the bedroom with other girls,” dad Mike Jones said on Facebook. “At no time did I say anything about your race or gender.”
Jones is also asking the police to release campus surveillance video and body camera footage of the officer.
Medlock told police the act of choking was just a joke and not a serious attack. But police issued a citation for assault and expelled the transgender student from campus.
The trans student also insisted that the whole incident was caused by another cheerleader named Karleigh, according to KTAB.
The college later released a statement saying, “Ranger College takes all allegations of this nature seriously and is committed to providing a learning environment free from discrimination. Currently, Ranger College is in compliance with all applicable Title IX regulations and board policies.
