Several rounds of precipitation are expected to hit the Chicago area Tuesday and Wednesday morning, with a threat of severe weather Tuesday evening in northeastern Illinois.

Most of northern Illinois is under a “slight” risk of severe weather, while northwest Indiana is under a “marginal” risk, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Storms that sparked in Iowa and Missouri resulted in numerous tornado warnings, and those warnings began moving toward Illinois just after 5 p.m.

As the evening progresses, counties west of the Chicago area will be the first to face the threat of severe weather, with the entire region at risk for these storms by 8 p.m.

During Wednesday morning’s drive, additional showers and storms could develop across far eastern Illinois and western Indiana.
