Mission Viejo – It was an unusual final score for a baseball match.
“If you were telling me this morning, we abandon eight points today,” joked Trabuco Hills, Brett Lavoie, “I would have cried.”
It turned out to be a happy day for Lavoie and the Mustangs, which abandoned so many points on Friday, but they scored a lot in an 18-8 victory against Capistrano Valley.
The victory gave Trabuco Hills a part of the South Coast League championship. The Mustangs and Aliso Niguel both finished with 9-3 League records. Trabuco Hills won two of his three championship games against Aliso Niguel.
Trabuco Hills will take a record of 20-7-1 in the qualifiers of the southern CIF section which start in two weeks. Supports in playoffs for the nine qualifying divisions will be published on May 12.
The Mustangs, which are n ° 12 in the top 25 of Orange County, will probably play in division 2. They are n ° 37 in the classification of the most recent CIF-SS baseball qualifiers. Division 1 being a support of 32 teams, a classification n ° 37 establishes Trabuco Hills in the group of 32 teams for division 2.
Capistrano Valley finished 11-15-1 in total and 2-9-1 in the league. Cougars will not be in the playoffs.
TRABUCO HILLS beaten twice in the competition. The Mustangs sent 14 players in marble during a first 10 -point round at Capistrano Valley High and 12 in marble in sixth round in six points.
Senior launcher Sam Crouse succeeded and rolled in two points for the Mustangs. The left -wing defensive player Evan Hall had three shots, including one triple and three points produced. The second senior goal player Mikey Gray rose on the basis three times, scored twice and had a product point.
Gray entered the team at the top of the team in strokes, with 28 years, and brought an average of Basting of .354 in the competition. It is also 9-0 on the mound with an MPM of 0.61. He is the last of the three Gray brothers who played Trabuco Hills, following Robert and Joey Gray.
Lavoie wants there to be at least one more gray brother to come.
“That’s all, unfortunately,” said Lavoie. “Mikey is a senior leader. He will play anywhere, he is going to throw and he strikes. Whatever we need him to do it. ”
Trabuco Hills, Brady Meade’s right -handers’ right field player, managed two strokes and rolled in two points. Junior Tyler Hill receiver had two strokes and rolled in two points.
Crouse launched in the fourth round. The nine withdrawals he obtained were by removal to the stick.
The attack by Capistrano Valley was led by the designated striker Senior Jake Roxas who led in two points. The third senior goal player Landon Stewart succeeded two strokes, scored twice and rolled in a race.
It was not the most fluid victory for the Mustangs, which swept the three -game series of the week with Capistrano Valley, but it was good enough for Lavoie.
“Whenever you can win in the last game of the season with what is at stake?” Said Lavoie. “We are going to take it.”
Lavoie, 44, is in his first season as a trabuco Hills head coach and his 19th as a baseball trainer in high school. He previously managed baseball programs at Whittier Christian and Long Beach Poly.
He replaced Michael Burns at Trabuco Hills after Burns retired from training.
“It’s a group that was really talented before arriving,” said Lavoie. “Coach Michael Burns, great accessories for him for what he has done in 17 years and essentially doing a well -oiled machine.”
It is a group that Crouse loves.
“We have played with each other since we had 9 years, about six or seven of us,” said Crouse. “We are brothers here.”
