  • The Spurs defender heaped praise on two of his teammates following their latest defeat.
  • Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou hinted players could be sold this summer
  • Ruthlessly exposed, but here’s why Tottenham should be HAPPY, says Chris Sutton – Listen to It’s All Kicking Off! podcast

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has come out in defense of two Spurs stars following Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou then criticized his side’s performance as they slumped to a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat which dashed their Champions League qualification chances.

Romero found himself publicly defended by Postecoglou after clashing on the pitch with teammate Emerson Royal during the defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and has now expressed his own vow of support for two other colleagues.

Optimism surrounding Tottenham’s end to the season faded after they suffered heavy defeats against London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea before traveling to the North West, with Postecoglou at times unable to hide his fury.

The Australian took responsibility for the poor performances but also issued pragmatic warnings to underperforming players, with some unhappy with criticism after defender Radu Dragusin’s agent mocked the Spurs boss.

Romero tried to rally his central partner Micky van de Ven and attacking star Giovani Lo Celso in a social media post reflecting on the weekend defeat in Klopp’s penultimate home game as boss from Liverpool.

The Argentine responded to a photo posted by Lo Celso stating “Look out, what a player” and told his teammate: “I love you brother, we need you.” in response to the original post.

Lo Celso has been a fringe player for most of the season after returning to the club in the summer following a loan spell at Villarreal and has scored just two goals in 20 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season.

The 28-year-old is one of several players likely to leave the club in the off-season and Postecoglou explained after being beaten by Liverpool that private buying and selling is an “inevitable” part of the journey.

“I don’t know (which players will still be there). It’s not about, you know, I’m not trying to get people out,” he told Sky Sports.

“But if, if you look at if it’s Liverpool, you know, at the start of their journey, by the time they won it, how much the team has changed, it’s completely natural. I want say, Arsenal in a similar boat now.

“It’s inevitable because you’re going in a new direction. But that doesn’t mean the guys here will be part of this journey.

“As we continue to grow, as we continue to improve, I’m sure there will be, you know, others that take over,” he added .
