The fury of Tottenham fans is justified, James Maddison admitted after their 1-0 defeat in Chelsea.
The Spurs fell to a 16th defeat in 30 Premier League games – their most in full campaign since 2003-2004 – and were second in the London derby at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernandez’s header was sufficient to guarantee the three points for Chelsea, with Moises Caicedo and Pape Matar Sarr having both goals excluded after the Var checks.
Angel Postcoglou did not applaud fans full time while the supporters gave players a ear.
They had hooked Postoccoou’s decision to bring Sarr and Brennan Johnson (for Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert), and the boss of the Spurs seemed to give them ears when he thought that the first had marked, although he insisted later that he just wanted to applaud.
“It hurts a lot. It was too often this season. Our fans are rightly disappointed. We are disappointed, ”Maddison told Sky Sports.
James Maddison said Tottenham fans had the right to be angry after their 1-0 defeat in Chelsea

Angel Postcoglou did not recognize the supporters, who had hooked him during the match
“We are just trying to search for the answers why, in the League, we do not get the results in tight matches. We have lost so many matches this year by margins to a goal.
“So, I don’t really want to be here talking about nowhere. Our fans don’t even want to hear what we have to say, right? So, it’s just about trying to be better in the future.
“To be fair, they are rightly angry. I think that it is always important that we were going and that we had our appreciation for them, even if we do not get a good reception, let’s say it in this way.
“That’s why I always walk there. I think they deserve this, even if it is not easy to pass and get burst in your face.
“But, as I said, they pay their money, they travel everywhere for us. And we are just as disappointed as they are, but we try to say them.
“It can always be a super special season if we lift silverware. We are in the quarter -final. We are with two light fixtures far from a European final. It can therefore be a very special season.
“The message would be, stay with us. We need it as much as they need us, you know. And again, they probably don’t want to listen to me right now after another defeat in the league. It’s good, but I have to go out, I have to answer your questions. So try to stay together, I suppose.
The feeling between the supporters and the team has become tense when the fans started to sing “You do not know what you are doing” at PostCoglou due to some of its subsitutions.
When the sub-sarr finished from the outside of the box a few minutes later, then Postcoglou took the opportunity to keep their ears in travel fans.
Unfortunately for the Spurs, this objective was excluded after the consideration of Langy Var due to the fault of Sarr on Moisses Caicedo.
But Postcoglou’s gesture remained a subject of discussion after the match.
“When they scored, it seemed to hear his hands at the fans of the Spurs as if to say, listen, I know better,” Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports the next day.
“Normally, he would be there by applying them. There is a disconnection between the two for the moment. It is not ideal. He must keep his head high, keep working hard, believe what he is trying to do. It was a difficult night for them.
But Postcoglou insisted that he had not wanted to taunt the fans, and I rather wanted to encourage them.
“Jeez, guy. It’s incredible how things are interpreted. We had just scored. I just wanted to hear them applauded, “he said during his press conference.
“Because we had a difficult time, and I thought it was a cracking goal. I just wanted them to be really excited. I felt at that time that we could potentially continue and win the match. I just felt that the momentum was on the way.
“I don’t mind. It is not the first time that they have hooked my substitutions or my decisions. It’s very good. They are allowed to do that. But we just scored a goal. We just marked an equalizer. I was just hoping that we could get some excitation.
“People want to read that – that I try to make a point on something. I said I felt that we had gone through a difficult period. But I just felt that there was a little momentum there. If they can be really behind the guys, I thought we had the momentum to finish on them.
