Tottenham decision was so close fans and pundits thought technology was broken
Tottenham fans and Tim Sherwood were initially baffled by a very close goal-line technology call during the Luton game.
Alfie Doughty appeared to clear the ball behind the line in Spurs’ 2-1 win over the Hatters, but Jarred Gillett’s watch failed to chime, suggesting the technology was broken.
The incident occurred when the score was tied at 1-1 in the second half.
When the shot went in, the ball deflected across the goal and seemed destined to go in, but Doughty was there to make an incredible goal-line clearance that left several fans stunned and denied a goal to Brennan Johnson .
Writing on ‘was a goal.’
Another added: “He crossed the line 100% – only Tottenham guy. I swear.”

While someone else said: “Wasn’t that news???”
Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham manager Sherwood was also adamant that the ball had gone over the line.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday, he said: “It seems excessive to me, but his watch didn’t go off.
“Is (the goal-line technology) broken?
“It’s surely beyond the bounds.”
However, an aerial replay of the decision showed that the ball as a whole had not crossed the line, although it was only a matter of millimeters.
In the end, it didn’t matter as Heung-min Son scored a late winner to temporarily move into the top four.
Things got off to a bad start for Ange Postecoglou’s men as Tahith Chong gave Luton the lead inside three minutes.
Spurs equalized early in the second half thanks to an own goal from Issa Kaboré.
Doughty then denied Johnson before Son appeared at the death with a late goal to spark wild scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
