It was another glory, Glory European Night for Tottenham Hotspur while they welcomed Eintracht Francfurt during the first leg of a home series in the quarter -finals of the Europa League. Tottenham conceded early but leveled shortly after a magnificent short -range film by Pedro Porro. Tottenham achieved one of their best overall performance in what looked like months, but in one way or another, was not able to obtain the lens of the green light and ended up shooting 1-1.
A disappointing result, of course, because Tottenham is now faced with the prospect of having to go to Germany and win in order to go to the semi-finals. Feasible? Yes. Difficult? Absolutely yes.
This one was there to take. Here are my match notes.
Match the reactions
- Whatever the result, it was the best of Tottenham Hotspur who looked in what looks like ages. Really exciting, progressive, good and big chance football. I also had the crowd in it.
- What a frustrating opening objective. A stupid Maddison midfielder’s gift, Romero gave Ekitike too much space and respect, and he simply split it in the area. A low xg shot (0.3), but, like, closed it already!
- Despite the first goal, Tottenham seemed much more energetic in the first stages of the match. Needed some additional clinical attacks in the box, but the progress of the ball was quite good.
- Porro’s goal has governed. A great little Madison ball and the right back played a pretty red with its left foot for the equalizer. Sexy stuff.
- We know what Johnson can bring aside, but it was once again quite frustrating to see him several times by jogging on the field instead of bringing the late behind. He was practically invisible in this one.
- So many passes poorly placed in the first half. Exasperating.
- Spurs Super Lucky They did not go to the half-time of a goal because Frankfurt had a four out of two to death. I guess 9 times out of 10, they walk and it was pretty garbage defended against the spurs during this game.
- There was this period in the second half when Bergvall and Bentancur both shot in the frame and the son forced an incredible backup of the Frankfurt goalkeeper. Do you already feel like your team is cursed?
- Again perplexed by the reluctance of angel to use previous submarines. Bentancur looked completely gassed, and Postcoglou had a full bench of quality players that he could have turned much earlier than him.
- I am not really a guy of “blame the reference”, but this Polish official had some of the strangest missed calls. Clear faults, missed corners given as kicks, yellows that should have been given but not. Just an absolutely excruciating official, and it’s quite confusing.
- The latter free kic where Micky was racing and ended up running in the post while the ball hit the bar and sank looked like that. So frustrating that the Spurs have played their best game for months and still couldn’t find a way to score.
- So, all that the Spurs must do now is to go to Germany and win. No problem?
