An urgent search is underway for a teenager missing in Torres Strait waters.
Queensland Police said a 13-year-old boy swam about 500 meters to shore on Saibai Island, about four kilometers south of Papua New Guinea, and raised the alarm.
He told police his 16-year-old partner tried to swim from a broken down dinghy at night, but failed to reach shore in rainy weather.
Police launched a search and rescue operation on Thursday morning.
On Thursday, the island’s water police immediately activated and began a search and rescue operation with the support of general duty teams.
